Key Features:
Here is what makes the semi-forged version of the 65.5mm kit different:
-
Tighter Clearances: Unlike full-forged pistons that expand significantly when hot (requiring a “loose” fit and loud engine noise when cold), semi-forged pistons have a lower expansion rate. This allows for a tighter fit in the cylinder, resulting in a quieter engine and better oil control.
-
Superior Wear Resistance: The high silicon content makes the piston surface very hard. This is excellent for daily use and long-distance touring where you want the engine to last thousands of kilometers without losing compression.
-
Thermal Stability: It handles heat much better than a standard stock piston, preventing the “piston crown melt” often seen when up-jetting or increasing displacement.
-
Weight Balance: It is lighter than a standard oversize cast piston but slightly heavier than a full forged one. This provides a good balance of durability and RPM response for street bikes like the Unicorn or Impulse.
